In its eleventh year this August, the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, Australia’s premier Indigenous art, film and cultural event presents the "2017 DAAFF Film Gala" at Deckchair Cinema.
With two separate movie screenings over two nights, the "2017 DAAFF Film Gala" presents “Namatjira Project Documentary” on Saturday, 19 August and "Ella" Sunday, 20 August.
The “Namatjira Project Documentary” will be a featured film at the event and a key component of the gala evening, which will also include a panel discussion after the film. The panel will include members of the Namatjira family and intellectual property copyright experts and other guests.
This multifaceted event will offer audiences a deeper level of engagement with the rich themes that are presented in the film including; copyright, reconciliation, justice, citizenship, exploitation and the power of friendship.
On Sunday, 20 August all profits from "Ella" will be donated as a fundraiser to DAAF. "Ella" follows Ella Havelka's inspirational journey from the regional town of Dubbo and onto the world stage of The Australian Ballet. Featuring intimate interviews, dynamic dance sequences, and a stunning array of archival material, this moving documentary follows Ella as she explores her cultural identity and gives us a rare glimpse into life as an elite ballet dancer within the largest company in the southern hemisphere.
Doors open from 6pm at Deckchair Cinema, Jervois Rd, Darwin City NT 0800.
