Wagait Beach is a small residential community directly across the harbour from Darwin CBD, 15 minutes by Ferry or 130k's by road via Berry Springs.
It's relative isolation is attractive to people wanting a quiet country lifestyle with easy access to the city.
With a population of around 450, this is a quiet corner of the NT.
The Supermarket is the centre of commercial activity and a Market is held every 2 months at the Cox Country Club.
There is a sports area with public toilets and BBQ's not far from the supermarket, on the other side of the road from the supermarket.
This is one place where private property sits directly on the edge of the public beaches, with the result that access to the beach is only via designated walkways or drives between the private blocks.
Text on the Red sign reads:
These two 6-inch gun emplacements, located on the dune above Wagait Beach are all that remains of an extensive artillery battery established as part of the fixed defenses of Darwin Harbour during World War 11.
