The 22 of March 1970 I arrived in Darwin via Singapore BOAC
I only had 5 Dollars on me
I was there to work, make and save money and get back to Bankok to pick up my car which needed repair.
1.135 per hour
15 dollars indemity every 2 week
2 dollar by day in the bush
2.27 per hour supplimentaire in the bush
Mr Coincy was my first boss and we left a few days later for 2 weeks in the bush. I love driving the LandRover.
I do remember that I love the back country, but it was so hot, 40 Celcius
Some time back in Darwin I will go play basketball. We won the league that year.
My first cheque was 104.01 for 10 days work.
Rush to the bank of Commonwealth took some cash
Buy new shoes, some band aid and stuff to clean my thees and pay back the lady for rent of the bed
I do have a daily journal of my stay in French
The rock place, the beach
If you want I could translate it.
My last week was October 1 to 8 1970 having save enough to pay for my car repair in Bankok.
Every day I pass with Dianne. She is my best memories of Darwin and Australia, too bad I misplace her last name and address untill 2 weeks ago when I recieved a box of old mail save by my Mother and sent by my brother.
There was the tiny envelope.
DIANNE QUIGLEY
POST OFICE GENERAL DELIVRY DARWIN N T 5790 AUSTRALIA
I help her to move to McMinn Street the 10 4 1970
Merci to let me bring back some special memories.
