Xmas Dance with NTBDA

Good news…..the new NTBDA Committee is having a Christmas Dance at the Italian Club on Saturday 5 December.

NTBDA’s dance flyer is attached with all the information. (Most of you will already have seen this).

Download a Membership form, as you will note that the price for tickets differs for members and non members. These can be emailed back to ntbda@yahoo.com.au, handed to Cassie at one of our regular dances, or handed in on the dance night.

Table bookings are available for up to eight people. If you organise a group, email NTBDA with the list of names, so they can check membership status, etc and advise the admission price.

Payments can be made by bank transfer (details on the membership form) or in person to Cassie at a dance.

Ballroom dancing covers a number of styles such as Modern, Old Time, Latin and New Vogue. The aim of all NTBDA dances is to give all dancers regular dates, times and places to practice and enjoy their dancing and to meet new people.

NTBDA also aims to showcase Ballroom and New Vogue Dancing to the broader community and to attract people to, or back to dancing. The dance programs will include some "Come & try" progressive dances of Jive, Samba, Barn Dances, Evening Three Step, etc where current dancers will try to pass on their skills to others.
Other dance steps will include the Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Modern Waltz, Slow and Quick Rythymn, etc. Sequence dances will include the Mayfair and Brecken Quickstep, Balmoral and Barclay Blues, Carousel, Sindy and Spindle Swing, Emmerdale and Alpha Waltz, Tangoette and Tango Serida plus others.

NTBDA does not provide Dance Classes, or Teaching.
If you are starting out, or interested in learning, receiving assistance or improving we are able to direct you to a person who may be able to assist with this.
Learning for Beginners and/or assistance with improvement may be arranged through lessons conducted by Audrey Grace. Audrey is a separate entity not attached to the NTBDA. NTBDA successfully gets the dances going in 2020

The Harbour Room in Smith St, Darwin was the scene for a fun filled night of dancing on Saturday 8 Feb 2020. A lively group of dances arrived fresh and eager to kick off the 2020 dancing year.
It was good to see all of the usual dancers as well as two former residents visiting and joining in. Additionally, NTBDA welcomed some new dancers.

We danced to the great variety of music played by Maree and only stopped for supper and a chance to renew past acquaintances. A great night was had by all.

Saturday night success was followed up today with an afternoon dance at Malak Community Centre that was very well attended. Cheryl played the music todsy and again and the dancers enjoyed a full program. It was a fun afternoon. We hope to repeat it this Sunday 16 Feb 20.

NYE Dance

NTBDA ended 2019 with a New Years Eve Dance on at Harbour Room Darwin. We even got to see the Fireworks from the waterfront while having our supper. Thanks to all that attended and for all the great support for the year.

Look forward to seeing you back there on 8th February 2020 for our first Saturday night dance for the year.

NTBDA - Wednesday Afternoon Dance Activities

The Northern Territory Ballroom Dancing Association (NTBDA) Wednesday afternoon dances on 4, 11, 18 & 25 Sep 2019 September have regularly been enjoyed by approximately 30 to 35 social dancers each week.

The dancers have been delighted by an afternoon of good dance music, allowing them to dance a great range of Sequence and New Vogue dances, plus a couple of fun dances to keep the happy atmosphere at a high level. The regular turn out of such consistently high numbers of social dancers, is testament to the fact that the NTBDA committee understand the 'wants' of their Social Dancers.

Add to this, afternoon tea and help with those difficult steps and its obvious why these,afternoon dances are such a success, and all this for just $5:00.
Well done Deejay Cheryl (Wednesdays) and Maree for her very skilful and friendly guidance when our feet just occasionally don't sync with our brain. NTBDA is indeed very fortunate to have passionate & dedicated Volunteers of such a high calibre.

Breaking News just in, is that October is shaping up to be just as successful for the Wednesday afternoon social dancers.

some great dances

The Palmerston Dance just recently was held in the Gray Community Hall, with the beautiful square architectural raised ceiling (if you thought at any time to look upwards!). Many thanks to our visiting Roger, who, together with Jo, created a new dance list, with all new music to accompany it. (Memories of all the dances which Ross and Gloria had put on a few years ago.) |Again, It was a very enjoyable evening.

The "Hollywood" NTBDA dance "with the stars" at Harmony Hall was a great evening, lots of Bill Roy’s lovely music. Even his old music of the Glenn Miller era played in the intermission was beautiful to dance freestyle to. The costumes were lovely to see, David’s favourites were Maree’s and Birgit’s. (The men, of course, looked handsome as usual, no matter what they wore!) . Large floor gave plenty of room in the centre for a variety of dances at the same time.

Palmerston Afternoon Last Saturday 7 Sep 19

Gray Community Centre was once again the setting for a very successful NTBDA afternoon dance.

The idea was put forward by Palmerston area residents, Joanne and Graeme Francis. It was implemented with their organisation skills, hard work & help from their friends, Mike & Robyn (also well known in the Darwin dance world) with setting up & clearing up. The Deejay/MC duties were admirably performed by well known South Australian visitor & dancer, Roger Phillips.

Roger & Ange have over years past & current, unstintingly shared their knowledge if dance & music with the NTBDA members. This is greatly appreciated and works to help all of us keep dancing alive & well in the Top End.

39 Dancers attended for 3 hours of dance and socialising. A great afternoon and the NTBDA committee thanks Jo, Graeme, Roger, Ange, Mike, Robyn, those who attended and all others who had a hand in ensuring the success of the event. Well Done Everyone.

Sat 10 Aug 19 - Monthly Dance

Even though, the NTBDA dance on Sat 10 Aug 19 was up against some stiff competition from the Darwin festival a very good crowd arrived at the Harbour Room and danced the night away.

Dee-Jay Maree Kuczborski provided a fun time and a great night of dancing. She had worked up a different music program that was very well accepted by our interstate visitors (new faces among the crowd) who joined in enthusiastically. We were even able, with the help of some of our long time supporters, to teach one of the visitors, a dance called The Madison'.

Everyone finished the night in high spirits and NTBDA will follow up this success with our 'Hollywood Glamour' Ball next Saturday night, 27 Aug 2019 at Harmony Hall, 44 Paterson St, Malak. Dancing starts at 7pm.

Easter Sunday Afternoon Dance

Dancing this Easter Sunday afternoon away at the Malak Community Centre was a wonderful addition to Easter 2019. Many of our dancers fulfilled family and religious activities in the morning and came along for a very pleasant afternoon dancing to the music of the NTBDA Event Deejay & Compere, Maree Kuczborski. As always, Maree delivered a fun and lively afternoon of dancing that was very well attended and enjoyed by all. The communal afternoon tea topped off a fantastic event. Black & White Dance

On Saturday(past) 30 March , the NTBDA organised & presented a special dance with a Black & White Theme.

It was held at Darwin Golf Club, Links Rd, Marrara. The NTBDA,committee with helpers of Greg & Mike decorated the club dance area during the afternoon. It was very pleasing to see that the guests had also taken considerable effort to dress in Black & White.

There were some stunning outfits and many of the men really got into the spirit and added white ties and wore hats. The NTBDA Treasurer, Maree Kuczborski did an amazing job as Dee Jay at the event. Maree provided a good mix of Ballroom, Rock n Roll, Partner dances, Progressive dances and a few fun dances. Our 76 attendees were all at various times up there on the dance floor and really kicking up their heels. A number of people provided feedback that this night reminded them of the good old days when they regularly got 70 to 80 persons at every dance. We danced from 7:30pm until 11:40pm and then reluctantly had to call it a night.

Watch out for our next special dance on Wednesday 26 June 2019. at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club, East Point Rd, Fannie Bay.

MALAK MASKED BALL - Very Successful Event

An insider from the event described it a fun filled,glamourous & sophisticated night out. The Venue was decorated in hues of Aqua, Turquoise & Silver and the ambience heightened by twinkling lights from the ceiling and soft candle light on the tables.
Music by Bill Roy was enthusiastically danced to.
The Scrumptious supper enjoyed with gusto, Security excellent and a great group of helpers to set up and clean up afterwards.
A big 'Well Done' to the NTBDA Committee and their support team. Word on the street is that people are keen to have another ball there next Seniors Month.

Successful NTBDA Debut At The Harbour Room, Darwin City

Last evening, Sat 10 Feb 2018, I was very fortunate to witness and enjoy the "Inaugural" NTBDA Monthly Dance at The Harbour Room, 2 Smith St, Darwin City.

Among 42 other dancers, we enjoyed good music, a full night of Ballroom and New Vogue dances, great company and a refreshing supper, Tea & Coffee.

We danced the night away, laughed and chatted together in a very fun, friendly environment.

Well Done to the team at NTBDA and its wonderful to have a Darwin City Ballroom Dance on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 7:30pm t 11:30pm. I can hardly wait for Saturday 10 March 2018, so we can do it all again.

Monthly Dance - 2nd Saturday each month

The inaugural monthly dance of the NTBDA was held on Saturday 9 Sep 2017 at the MALAK Community Centre, Malak Crescent, Malak.
To the music played by DJ Maree, who also proved to be a Humorous and competent MC, the dancers swayed, waltzed, cha cha'd, foxtrotted, sauntered and quick-stepped the night away. The dancers appeared to be having lots of fun during a wonderful evening of social Ballroom, New Vogue and progressive dances. Midway through the evening, all present enjoyed a well earned rest while they chatted to each other over the communal supper with their choice of tea, or coffee. Old acquaintances were renewed and new bonds formed which is part of the charm of social dancing. The first monthly dance was deemed a success and the NTBDA will continue these on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

The next NTBDA dance will be on Saturday 14 October 2017 at the MALAK Community Centre, Malak Crescent, Malak from 7:30pm until 11pm. Tickets sold at door. $10:00 per person plus bring a small plate of sweet or savoury items to share at communal supper.
Correct money will be appreciated by NTBDA because change is difficult to provide.

July - Monthly Dance

The monthly social dance held at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club on Sunday 24th July was a great success with many enjoying the fine outdoor setting - it was great to see a number of faces that had been absent from the scene for a while.
